The City of Fountain Valley contracted Butier Engineering, Inc. to provide construction management and inspection services for the rehabilitation of Well No. 6.
The purpose of the project is to upgrade the existing equipment which is old or has become obsolete. It is also to create a safer environment for the local community and City's operating staff by eliminating the existing gas chlorination system. The complete scope of the upgrades is as follows:
- Replace existing gas chlorination system with an on-site sodium hypochlorite generation system, including brine tank, product storage tank, two chlorine solution pumps, two water pressure booster pumps, and all necessary piping, valves, electrical connections, and appurtenances
- Replace the telemetry/well control panel with a new TESCO RTU L-2000
- Replace the existing natural gas engine with an electric motor
- Furnish a 600 kW, diesel fueled emergency generator for standby power
- Construct a new 450 SF masonry building to house the new on-site sodium hypochlorite generation system
- Install a new 1,000-amp, 480-volt, 3-phase motor control center and switchboard
- Install a new 3-phase, 480/277 volt, 1,000 amp service to supply the well facility as well as the new on-site chlorine generation system
- Install intrusion detection switches on each entry door of the facility to alarm the City's SCADA system of unauthorized entry
- Replace existing 4-inch discharge to waste piping with new 8-inch piping
- Relocate existing 12-inch and 18-inch steel watermains
- Replace existing irrigation controller with a new Rainbird ESP-MC-SS controller
- Connect the existing building drain to the local sewer system with a 4-inch PVC drain pipe
- Remove and replace existing asphalt paving with concrete pavement
