Water Recycling Facility

Butier Engineering, Inc. provided construction management and inspection services for the Carlsbad Municipal Water District Water Recycling Facility. Funding for the 4.0 MGD tertiary water recycling facility included loans and grants from the State Water Resources Control Board and a grant from the Bureau of Reclamation. Butier previously performed Value Engineering services for submission of the Water Recycling Facility project to the State for grant funding.

Project elements include:

• In-line static mixer for chemical addition
• Continuous backwash granular media filtration (GMF) facility
• Microfiltration/Reverse Osmosis (MF/RO) Facility
• Concrete chlorine contact basin with rapid mix basin
• Concrete containment areas for GMF, MF, RO, and chemical facilities
• Aluminum Sulfate, coagulant aid polymer, ferric chloride, filter aid polymer, MF CIP chemicals, sodium hypochlorite, sulfuric acid, threshold inhibitor and RO cleaning chemicals storage and feed facilities
• 4,300 SF operations building
• Site grading and improvements, frontage road improvements, and utility relocations
• Coordination with adjacent pump station construction projects
