Butier Engineering, Inc. provided construction management and inspection services for reconstruction of an existing 21.5-million gallon reservoir and booster pump station in Huntington Beach, California. The existing reservoir is essentially rectangular in shape and partially buried with vertical concrete walls and a hopper bottom with sloping sides. The existing pump station was a single-story masonry block building with a wood frame and metal deck roof. Summary of the principal work performed included:
- Demolition, removal, disposal, and reconstruction of the existing reservoir roof, including the removal and replacement of existing glu-laminated beams
- Demolition, removal, disposal, and reconstruction of the existing pump station roof, walls, and appurtenant structures
- Demolition, removal, and disposal of pipelines; valves; miscellaneous metals; and electrical conduit, wiring, lighting, and devices
- Cutting, plugging, and filling with concrete, all pipelines shown to be abandoned in place
- Construction of new reservoir interior concrete (or shotcrete) perimeter walls, concrete footings, and concrete roof support columns
- Installation of a membrane liner on all interior reservoir surfaces
- Painting of all exterior exposed perimeter concrete surfaces, exposed timber, and ferrous metals
- Hydrostatic testing and disinfection
- Removal and replacement of existing engine bases
- Installation of new natural gas engines, right angle gear drives, and other equipment
- Installation of all new piping, valves, meters, and appurtenant equipment
- Testing of the new pump station facility
- Completion of all work associated with new chlorine feed/storage facilities
- Mitigation of all environmental impacts, including noise, traffic, dust, stormwater pollution prevention, and disposal of any hazardous materials encountered in the demolition process
