Shady Canyon Zone B Pump Station

Butier Engineering, Inc. provided construction management and inspection services for this project located near the gated community of Shady Canyon, an exclusive residential area of Newport Coast. This particular project was one of three contracts with IRWD. Inspection was performed on all electrical equipment, associated conduit and wiring, and instrumentation and control devices, including calibration and start-up of plant equipment. Butier personnel oversaw the equipment representative, assisted with the start-up of equipment to ensure proper operation, interfaced with existing functional design intent, recorded daily events, and prepared punch lists as necessary during the normal course of the project.

The purpose of the Zone B Pump Station is to pump reclaimed water from the Zone A South Reservoir to a new pipeline and to the existing Zone B 36-inch reclaimed water pipeline in Shady Canyon Drive. The reclaimed water will continue through the existing Zone B pipeline in Bonita Canyon Drive and to the existing 36-inch pipeline in Chambord Road.

The scope of work called for the following:

  • Construction of 2,150 lineal feet of 30-inch Class 150 CML&C WSP
  • Pipeline corrosion protection and air-release and blow-off piping
  • Construction of two 30-inch Class 150 butterfly valves
  • Construction of one 36-inch Class 150 Butterfly valve
  • Pump station site work
  • Piping and pumps
  • All electrical, control, and instrumentation equipment within the pump station
  • Modifications required within the Reservoir

The project included close coordination with the City of Irvine and The Irvine Company.
